Crisis Causing Covid

The backbone of a country is its economy. But if the disc of the economy slips…we will face a major crisis and that’s what we are going through right now. The Coronavirus Pandemic has shaken the planet and has affected thousands of people. Our Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, announced a lockdown for the entire country, and we were locked inside our homes. During the lockdown, the economy faced a huge problem. We would have never imagined such a huge crisis with the GDP reducing by 23.9 in India alone! With the Great Depression being -26.5 GDP.
The lockdown led to this struggle in the economy and the consequences were miserable which included increased prices of sanitizers, masks, and hygiene products increasing. India was importing 69% of the medicinal drugs from China which is difficult to accomplish now. Smartphones and many electronic appliances were imported from China which are being made in India but at higher prices. Prices of traveling via air, petrol, diesel have decreased. All this has also led to unemployment. Such economic pressures help explain why the government lifted India’s stringent lockdown even though the spread of Covid-19 clearly hadn’t been controlled. India now has the world’s fourth-largest number of Covid-19 cases. The economy is going on a downward slope but if all the citizens of our beloved country work together, we might just make a change.
